TSWINI (THE SKILLED WOMEN INITIATIVE) organized a mental health and wellness program in collaboration with Afrimedic Foundation. At the event, different speakers spoke on a variety of topics including drug addiction, mental health and wellness.
The program with the theme “Breaking the silence on drug abuse, Say No to Drugs , Say Yes to Wellness” was held in Kabusa Community, FCT Abuja.

The target was young people between the ages 15-30 years who are most vulnerable to drug abuse and a crucial demography that needs to be sensitized adequately on drug use, mental health and wellness.
Health talk on Drug abuse and mental health was given by Dr Chika Agbo, A pyschiatrist, founder of Afrimedic Foundation and VPSN member.

There was interactive group session featuring Question and Answer with participants. Participants asked questions and the speakers addressed the issues raised. The interactive session was impactful because the questions asked by the participants gave the moderators insights into the challenges faced by the young people in this community and they were able to give great answers and recommendations on how to tackles these issues. The moderators also ensured that message was delivered in the native language for groups that don’t speak English. This is to ensure that the message is not lost on participant due to language barrier. Activities such as games and anxiety management techniques followed.

Winners of the various games went home with prizes. Each participant was given a wellness kit and snacks was available for everyone.

Participants appreciated the organisers and the speakers for hosting the program and noted that they have gained useful knowledge to improve their mental health and wellness. Photograph session followed after the closing session.
